Coral Reef Vocabulary Cards

Ocean

I've been working on making more vocabulary cards and Little Reader lessons for my youngest (I've been having trouble uploading Little Reader lessons, so send me a message if you'd like the file). This Coral Reef set to match the Coral Reef Toob, is the most recent.

Adaptation Sorting Biome Activity

Since we're doing an Around the World curriculum for homeschool this year, I wanted to try to include some biome studies for science. However, I also want to make sure I hit the Next Generation Science Standards to keep my kiddo on track for if/when he goes to public school. Standard K-ESS3-1. asks students to  Use a model to represent the relationship between the needs of different plants and animals (including humans) and the places they live.

For each biome we will be reading about the animals that live there and their adaptations, but I made this activity to add a hands on component. I've included five different biomes with animals that live there and some of their adaptations. I opted to skip some of the biomes because the animals living there were likely to live in some of these also.

To make it a little more fun, I got out some of our Toobs and other animal figurines.

Homophone Matching Activity

Because my 4 year old is such a great reader, it is something hard to find age appropriate language arts activities for him. Here is a hands on ELA activity I made to talk about homophones. While it was pretty easy, it was a great way to introduce the idea and keep building his vocabulary.
We started off by reading Dear Deer and How Much can a Bare Bear Bear? (We're big fans of the Brian Cleary books. We have several and there are tons on the Kindle Unlimited app). Archer was intrigued and wanted to talk about the words a lot.
Then we did this quick little matching activity. To make them more durable, you could easily laminate the little pictures and print the template on cardstock.

Winter Cuisenaire Templates

Winter Math

As part of trying to incorporate hands on math activities, I have been making Cuisenaire Rod Templates. Archer always enjoys matching the rods and then really enjoys counting up each color at the end. These are some wintery templates I made.

There are color and black and white versions of the four images.

Fall Number Bond Games

Lately Archer has been enjoying number bonds, so I made him these little number bond games to practice. The idea is you roll two dice, right the number from each one on the ends and put their sum in the center. I made trees/leaves, pumpkins/seeds and squirrels with acorns.

To add a little more variety and challenge, I have been letting him play with nontraditional dice.

Ocean Theme Cuisenaire Templates

Recently we have been doing some Ocean and Beach themed activities. I made some Cuisenaire mats to go with the theme. These are great for visual problem solving and he always chooses to do them if I leave them out.

Hands on Math

Each page also has a place to count up the number of each rod used. While I made a version of each with in color, Archer prefers the blank ones.
