Moments Gaming Together
New Division of Memorizing the Moments:
So it's not a secret that I LOVE board games. As the kids have gotten older and I've been able to play more after bedtime and have rekindled that passion. I kept finding myself wanting to share about the games I'm playing, both grown up games and games with the kids. Creating an entirely new blog didn't make sense, since there's plenty of educational value in playing with kids, so I created an Instagram account called Moments Gaming Together. The plan is to post pictures, reviews, recommendations, how we might modify games to play with kids, etc. This will serve as the landing page for any lists and more in depth reviews I end up making.
Me as a Gamer:
I enjoy games that have good decisions and strategy that let me win on my own merits rather than being mean to others. There aren't many "take that" games that have survived in our collection. I like a variety of mechanics but tend to stick with light to medium weight games. I like games that play simultaneously or don't take TOO long between turns. I'm usually playing after bedtime, so I need games that can be set up and played relatively quickly.
My Family of Gamers:
- My husband is a converted gamer. He didn't really play before he met me, but now plays with me often. He almost never turns down a game, but isn't necessarily one to suggest one or pick one out. He likes games that are simple to learn and play, but have multiple strategies that can be employed. Azul, That's Pretty Clever
- Xander (13) definitely has his preferences, but will usually try most any game and generally enjoys playing. He loves games that let him make big combos of moves like Dominion or Hogwarts Battle. He also likes word games and is much more tolerant of "mean" games.
- Archer (6) has always been the challenge. Games with any sort of mean, speed or "scary" component stress him out. He also always been the best loser. Lately, he's found several that he enjoys, which is making him more open to trying new ones.
- Juniper (2) is still on the really early side of gaming. She just turned two, so usually doesn't have the attention span for an entire game. There are some she enjoys, but often quits before the end. This will just get better over the next 6-12 months!
