What do you get when you mix frozen bananas, leaves, flies and caterpillars? An amazing Yeti Snack, of course! In the game Yeti Snack, players are racing to satisfy the Yeti’s craving first!
Overview
Each player gets their own ice mold and one of each ingredient token. Once everyone arranges their ingredients according to the top card in the stack, the next card is flipped, revealing what the yeti wants to eat. Sometimes it will just be certain ingredients, sometimes just not certain ingredients and sometimes he will want a stack of ingredients in a particular order. Everyone flips and folds their ice molds to try to move and stack their ingredients in the proper configuration. The first player to do it wins the cards. First to six wins the game. If you happen to mess up or flip an ingredient out of the mold, you grab the Yeah-Tea token, count down from 3 to calm down, and then reset to try to complete the snack.
Thoughts
My family tends to enjoy solo logic type games, and Yeti Snack seemed like a multiplayer version, so I was really excited to try it. I did not expect it to be as big of a hit as it has been.
The production is fantastic. The ice molds flip and move easily. The ingredient tokens are nice and heavy to help them fall into place (although they do occasionally get stuck). It is super easy to teach and satisfying to play. Yeti Snack also feels completely unique in our board game collection, which is hard given as many games as we own. Honestly, I would want it just for a logic activity for the kids, even if it wasn’t a competitive game. The game is better, though.
I first got it out right before bed, just to look at it and my teen insisted we finish a full game. The next day we tried with my 8 year old, who tends to avoid any game with speed. Let me tell you, that kid had the biggest smile the whole time, despite losing! Any game that will satisfy my fickle teen and hold the interest of the kid is a huge win in my book!
I know it is early to think about, but this would totally be at the top of my family Christmas list, if I didn’t already have it.
