Parts of Geometric Solids Book

We have officially started shape themes for tot school, so I have been working on materials to use in the coming weeks. I bought Archer a set of three dimensional solids to play with and wanted to use it as an opportunity to expand his vocabulary. I made a Little Reader lesson and this printable book.

Farm Babies Early Reader

Earlier in the week I shared some Farm Babies vocabulary cards I had made. To go with it, I also made this early reader.  (I used this same text on the Little Reader file). It has large, clear font on one page and pictures on the opposite.  If you wanted, you could also print one sided and have the text and images completely separate.

Below are a few sample pages. I printed the pages on cardstock, laminated them and used these 3/4" binder rings to "bind" the book.

Early Readers: Playing Outside

I've been working on making early readers for Archer.  I wanted books that have big clear text on its own page. I have also been making them in Spanish. This one was all about playing outside.
I think I have finally settled on a format I like!  This book has horizontal pages (which makes using a 3 hole punch so much easier), with words on the right and pictures on the left.  I printed on cardstock and laminated the pages. Then, I used a 3 hold punch to make the holes and used 3/4" binder rings to "bind" the books.

Early Readers - Kids Things

I've been working on making early readers for Archer. I wanted books that have big clear text on its own page. I have also been making them in Spanish to try to reinforce the vocabulary from our Little Reader lessons. This one was all about kids things.

I printed on cardstock and laminated the pages . Then, I used a 3 hold punch to make the holes and used 3/4" binder rings to "bind" the books. I'm still working to figure out the format I like best.  For this book, I tried setting it so I could print double sided and make it seem like an actual book, but in a landscape format.  I like it better than the portrait format, I think?  I just wish I had done the words on the right hand side of the page.  I'm sure I will eventually come up with a format I am 100% happy with!

Early Readers - Baby Things

I've been working on making early readers for Archer.  I wanted books that have big clear text on its own page. I have also been making them in Spanish to try to reinforce the vocabulary from our Little Reader lessons.  This one was all about baby things.
I printed on cardstock and laminated the pages . Then, I used a 3 hold punch to make the holes and used 3/4" binder rings to "bind" the books.  For this book, I tried setting it so I could print double sided and make it seem like an actual book.  Archer really seemed to like that better than having to turn the page to find the picture.  I think I'll do it the same way  next time, only landscape orientation rather that portrait.  What worked for me to print was to have it flip on the short side of the page.

Early Readers - Pets Book

I've been working on making early readers for Archer.  I wanted books that have clear text on one page and the picture on the next.  I have also been making them in Spanish to try to reinforce the vocabulary.  Here is the latest book I made - Pets.
Here are example pages (words on one page, picture on the following).

I printed on cardstock and laminated the pages . Then, I used a 3 hold punch to make the holes and used 3/4" binder rings to "bind" the books.  Here is Archer helping me put the pages together.

Early Readers - Thanksgiving Book

Happy (almost) Thanksgiving!  Recently I added a section for early reading books to the blog, so I decided to make a fall themed book.  Usually, I am making three version of each book, one in English, one in Spanish and one with both. However, since Thanksgiving is an American holiday, I felt like it just didn't translate well.  This time, I only made an English version.

Here are example pages (words on one page, picture on the following).

And then here is what my printed one looks like.  (I printed on cardstock and laminated the pages . Then, I used a 3 hold punch to make the holes and used 3/4" binder rings to "bind" the books.)

Early Readers - Fall Book

For me, September, means welcoming in the fall.  I've decorated the house and I'm reading to do some fall activities with the boys.  Recently I added a section for early reading books to the blog, so I decided to make a fall themed book.  I am making three version of each book, one in English, one in Spanish and one with both.  I am still kind of playing with it to see which ones I will print.  This time I printed the Spanish only version.

Here are example pages (words on one page, picture on the following).

And then here is what my printed one looks like.  (I printed on cardstock and laminated the pages . Then, I used a 3 hold punch to make the holes and used 3/4" binder rings to "bind" the books.)
