Letter Z Week

Can't believe this my last letter of the week post!  It's a little bitter sweet, but I am excited to start our themed units!

Letter Formation/Pre-Writing

He used his design rollers with some ink pads to decorate some Zs.

Life Skills

Xander has been asking to vacuum lately.  I've let him take over a few rooms a week.  He is SO proud of himself when he is done, although it does take a lot of my self control not to go in and do it "right" after him.  I'm working on encouraging him instead!

Fun and Games

To keep with the Z for Zoology theme, we played a Zoo Match 3 Corner game.

We finished the first Summer Reading 100s chart.  Xander asked that I make him another with Anna, so I've added that.

Thinking Skills

Last month I visited a friend who is lucky enough to live 15 minutes from a Lakeshore Learning.  I picked up this Following Directions building set.  I seems to be a good level of challenge for Xander, difficult but doable.

Doing some Imaginets

This puzzle seemed to fit in well with our talks about the water cycle. 

Math

Doing a Right Start Math lesson of combining two sets of tally marks.  This was one of the very few lessons that had a worksheet, but he did great!

Playing some press and spin dominoes

Science

We're still doing our Alphabet in Simple Science, and this week was W for Water Cycle.  Check back later this week to see everything we did.

Art

He begged to use his Slick Stix again.  He ended up coloring the whole page and wouldn't let me cut the Ws out.

Spanish

First of all Xander watched some Kids Start Spanish and The Magic School Bus Wet All Over in Spanish.  We also read Max y las nubes (Max and the Clouds) multiple times this week.

Playing Around

Xander recently decided that Magna-Tiles make good roads for little cars.  For the last week you've had to walk carefully in our family room because there are always new roadways everywhere.

This was the first week I left all the pictures together in a grid, instead of cutting them into strips for him (on his insistence).  I'm glad I listened to him, because I didn't think he was ready for that yet.  He did a great job though!

 

Science

We're still doing our Alphabet in Simple Science, and this week was V for Volcano.  I'll post all of the science activities later this week!

Sensory Play

As part of our volcano activities, we made a volcano out of salt dough.  After it "erupted" Xander played in the dough with his dinos for a long time!

 I attended a particle physics class for science teachers and brought home these fun rainbow spectrum prism glasses. I also brought home a spectroscope, but the glasses made it SO easy to see the different colors emitted by lights.  I got out some finger LEDs and he entertained himself for such a long time!  I wish we would have had them when we did our L for Light week!
